My Approach to Lifestyle Photography

"Photos for real life" isn't just a tagline for me. It's the whole philosophy behind how I work.

I capture you as you are. Not a version of you that's been posed into something unrecognizable, not a moment manufactured to look perfect. Real life is imperfect, and that's exactly what makes it worth photographing. The genuine laugh, the toddler who won't sit still, the slightly messy hair. Those are the details that make a photo feel true years later, not distracting from it.

How I Direct a Session

I do provide some prompts, especially for anyone who's shy or unsure what to do with their hands or where to look. Gentle guidance goes a long way in helping someone relax.

But with little kids, I like to let them roam and interact with their family with as little direction as possible. Kids are most themselves when they're not being told exactly how to stand. Older kids sometimes need a bit more encouragement, and I'm happy to give it, meeting each person where they are.

Almost two decades of working with clients through my advertising career taught me how to read a room. Everyone's comfort level with a camera is different, and part of my job is figuring out how to coach the best out of each person in front of me. I know it can feel stressful being photographed. My goal is to guide you through that so you can actually enjoy the experience itself, and then enjoy the gallery even more for years afterward.

How I Edit

My editing style mirrors the same philosophy. I use clean, natural tones and gentle refinement rather than heavy filters or trends that date a photo the moment they go out of style. My goal is for your images to feel timeless, so that ten years from now they still look and feel like you, not like a passing edit trend from the year they were taken.

At the end of the day, my approach comes down to this: show up as you are, let the real moments happen, and trust me to capture them well. That's what "Photos for real life" means to me, and it's the same care I bring to every session.
