A Tea Party, Three Generations, and a Whole Lot of Real Love
When a mom in Kingsport reached out wanting a tea party themed session for her daughter's upcoming birthday, I knew right away this one was going to be special.. she pictured her daughter and grandmother together, surrounded by family heirlooms and teacups that had been passed down through the generations. It was a beautiful idea on its own. But I saw a chance to make it even more meaningful.
Turning It Into a Three Generation Story
We spent time talking through what she pictured: the heirloom china, the lace, the little details that made this family's story their own. As we planned, I gently encouraged her to step into the photos too, not just stand behind the scenes watching her mom and daughter have all the fun. What started as a two generation shoot could become something even richer with her in it.
She hesitated at first. So many moms do. But she said yes, and by the time she saw her gallery, she was so glad she did.
Letting Them Just Play
Here's the thing about a "posed" family photo.. it rarely feels like the family. So instead of stiff arrangements and forced smiles, we let this one unfold naturally. Grandmother pouring imaginary tea. Mom laughing at her daughter's very serious tea party etiquette. Three generations, genuinely enjoying each other, while I captured it all as it happened.
That's the heart of what I do at Hux & Mae Photo: real moments over staged ones, every time.
What She Had to Say
After seeing her gallery for the first time, she left me this review, and it's exactly why I love this work:
"I wanted a tea party generational photo shoot that included family heirlooms, and Brookney went above and beyond! She is so professional, has an amazing eye for capturing even the smallest details, and she takes her time. She knew when my daughter was getting tired and needing breaks, and that made our experience even better. I love that her photographs capture every day moments, not all staged moments. She will forever be my go-to photographer for all of life's big and little events!"
Reading that is the whole reason I do this.
Why This Work Matters to Me
By day, I work in marketing and advertising, but Hux & Mae is my passion project.. a place where I get to slow down and pour into families the same creativity I use commercially, just in a much more personal way. For me, this is about more than photos. It's a way to serve others, to show up for them in a season that matters, and to give the same care that's been given to me over the years.
Every session is a chance to help someone shine in front of the camera and walk away with something they'll treasure for generations. This one, with its heirloom teacups and three generations of laughter, is a perfect example of exactly that.
